Many universities fund their libraries at the expense of sports activities.

In the real world, sports are considered as a waste of time at worst and a pleasant diversion at best.

Universities should invest an equal money in both libraries and sports facilities.

Sports activities play a pivotal role in developing students’ physical health.

More importantly, habitual physical activities such as cycling, running, swimming and jogging has a positive influence on circulation of blood and reduce the risk of hypertension and diabetes.

Likewise, students can reap numerous benefits from participating in sports activities.

Also, sports activities foster students’ social skills.

This is because sports include a wide variety of group activities such as soccer and baseball that require collective effort and cooperation.

I believe that universities should give the same amount of funds to sports activities as they do to libraries.

Universities spend more money on libraries and other academic facilities to prepare students academically and help their graduates find jobs. In the real world, sports activities are considered as a waste of time at worst and a pleasant diversion at best. However, I strongly believe that universities should invest an equal amount of money on both libraries and sports activities. This is because sports activities foster students’ physical health and social skills.

First of all, sports activities play a pivotal role in promoting students’ physical health. This is evidenced by numerous clinical studies that clearly show that a variety of physical exercises build and strengthen bones, muscles, and joints.
More importantly, regular exercises have a positive influence on blood circulation and reduce the risk of hypertension and diabetes. To illustrate, my cousin led a sedentary life by being glued to the computer for hours on end every day. Inevitably, he suffered from diabetes and obesity due to lack of exercises. However, he succeeded in losing 50 pounds by regularly exercising at a local gym for two hours a day for six months according to his doctor’s recommendation. Likewise, students can reap numerous benefits from participating in sports activities.

Second, sports activities promote students’ social skills. This is because sports such as soccer, baseball, and volleyball include a variety of group activities that require collective effort, team working, and cooperation. The best example of this is a soccer game. When playing a soccer game, participants have the chance to learn how to cooperate and work as a team. They cheer for other teammates, pass the ball to one another, and strive for the common goal of leading the team to victory, one that a single person cannot attain.

To summarize, I believe that universities should invest equally on both libraries and sports activities because sports activities promote students’ physical wellbeing and social skills of cooperating with others. On the whole, I agree with the saying “a sound mind in a sound body.” In other words, students’ mental health from healthy social relationships and physical wellbeing are very important factors in their success in the future.
